CINI Asha is one of the leading organizations working in the area of health and education in the eastern part of India. AIF is supporting a project for education of children of sex workers. CINI, which is based in Calcutta, has been running a program for these children on a small scale, in a red light area of the city called Rambagan. Additionally, in the last one year, CINI has also started intervention in the high trafficking areas of Siliguri. As part of the intervention, CINI has started evening learning centers for the children of sex workers in the slums. The emphasis is to help the children perform better in the schools. Currently, they are covering almost 250 children in the red light areas of Rambagan, and also in the high trafficking areas of Siliguri. Based on the experience of a year of intervention, CINI is planning to work out a broader strategy for children of sex workers. Co-funded with the Maharastra Foundation.
