Access To Education - Seasonal Migrants

Vikalpa (including Adhikar and Jan Mukti) (2005) ($217,032) Lokadrusti (2005), Orissa($ 31,627)
Please note – these are two separate grants but implemented in same geographic area and the same program activities. For this reason, the description is combined. These are two organizations based in tribal districts of western Orissa, from where huge distress migration takes place to brick kilns of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. In order to prevent the children from migrating with their parents, Vikalpa and Lokadrusti have started residential hostels for the children. Currently Vikalpa is covering about 1,300 children in the hostels, and Lokadrusti is covering about 400 children. Half of the funding has been committed by the government. This year, the organizations Adhikar and Jan Mukti were also involved in order to reach out to more children. However, no separate MOU has been signed with them, as Vikalpa has taken the responsibility of monitoring of their program.
