Setu has expertise in working with local communities, who are often the most marginalized sections of Gujarati society. As part of AIF’s support, Setu is working with children of saltpan migrants in Gujarat. Currently, Setu is running 14 hostels in 14 villages, and is covering 201 children. Of these 201 children, 151 are boys and 50 are girls. Additionally, Setu is running coaching classes for children to improve their reading and writing skills, reaching almost 500 children. Besides these, there are 3 informal education centers running for the children of the brick kiln laborers, fishing community and the Jat community, reaching about 68 children. Lastly, about 1,400 children and community members are benefited by the library program of Setu. Setu’s initiative with the government has encouraged the government to adopt its model for replication.
